Working with both SDB Solutions & Services (SDB) and No.1 Services group in Asia, Diethelm Logistics has made an agreement to complete processing data from 350,000 paper forms   using ABBYY Form Reader and Bowe Bell + Howell Scanners. It was definitely a success with its completion after two weeks.

The Challenges
Playing the major role of bridging Asia Pacific to Europe and America in the industry of sourcing, marketing, logistics and distribution, Diethelm Logistics is a company responsible for  massive amount of data. Through every business process conducted by Diethelm Logistics, accounting for every detail in crucial forms is highly important. All documents have to be  stored, archived and delivered to DKSH in CSV format by FTP at 3pm on a daily basis. Once DKSH receives the information delivery, all data will be uploaded in the EDMS system again. The challenge for SDB is to complete this cycle for 350,000 different types of documents within 2 weeks.

The Solutions
Having analysed and compared with various OCR/ICR systems available in the market, SDB has chosen ABBYY FormReader as the only system completely meeting the project requirements. Once the data is captured and digitised with BBH Scanner, they will be sent for verification with ABBYY FormReader. It automatically detects machine-readable forms and recognises them using its powerful OCR/ICR/OMR/barcode recognition technologies. The recognised data will then be verified automatically with the help of the automatic  validation rules and the operators will check through them again to ensure 100% reliable results. Once this is done, the information will be uploaded to EDM System.

The Results
The highly accurate recognition technology by ABBYY has eliminated the time of checking and making correction. When it works together with BBH scanner, it only takes the system 90 seconds to scan, recognise, verify, and register. The beginning to the end of the project was a back-to-back grueling two to three shifts per day (by running 24 hours). As a result, 350,000 documents have been able to be processed in time, as compared to the initial throughput of 1,000 forms per day to the 25,000 forms now. It was certainly an astounding success to complete this major task with Diethelm Logistics within just a fortnight.
