News Scoop 3 (NEC Express5800/FT Series)
In today’s information system environment where a wide variety of systems are connected over a network, a single server failure can affect a company’s entire operations, resulting in significant lost business opportunities. Keeping a system running in the event of an unexpected failure and recovering from the failure without having to take the system down present an imposing challenge for system administrators. The NEC Express5800/ft series servers are designed to continue operation with no downtime – primary hardware components are replicated and controlled by the NEC-developed GeminiEngine™ redundancy chip. This enables the redundant components to perform the same processes simultaneously, delivering exceptionally high availability.
Benefits
Minimised Downtime
NEC’s GeminiEngine™ keeps redundant modules operating in lockstep. Operating systems and application software are not affected by unexpected hardware failures and downtime is avoided.
Continuous Availability
Modules are hot-swappable, eliminating the need for stopping or restarting the system, even when replacing faulty components. System operations can continue from the time that failure occurs until the system is fully recovered, without affecting your organisation’s operations.
Turnkey Fault Tolerant Solution
NEC’s FT servers support Microsoft® Windows Server® 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition, Windows Server® 2008 Enterprise x64, and Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® 5.2, and allow these operating systems and software applications to run with no special modification required.
Out-of-Box Setup
NEC Express5800/ft series servers are single servers running a single operating system. For this reason, setup is identical to any other server, without any special considerations for the faulttolerant capabilities. The availability of an entire system can be improved simply by replacing an ordinary server with an NEC FT server.
